The hammock swing is a perfect chair for an autistic child. They enjoy sitting in these because they wrap around them and make them feel safe and secure as they rock back and forth. The improvement can be dramatic, even after fifteen minutes, and can last all day.
They feel out of balance due to a dysfunctional vestibular system. The swinging motion restores equilibrium to this system and makes them feel more “in balance” The motion of swinging also soothes, relaxes, and improves concentration. Children who have difficulty with certain tasks, such as reading or math, may benefit from sitting in a hammock swing while doing this.
Cotton is one of the most soft and comfortable fabrics on the market, but its strength and durability often leave something to be desired. If you leave your cotton hammock exposed to the elements year-round it will begin to deteriorate rapidly. The best way to keep your hammock looking, and feeling, its best is to take it down after each use and store it under an eave or in the garage.
If you live in an area where adverse weather isn’t an issue, you can leave your hammock outside. But you will have to clean it periodically. Simply use warm water and a mild soap, but be sure to dry the hammock thoroughly when you’re done. When the hammock gets wet, separate the weave of the fabric to ensure it dries properly.
Some days, it seems like everything goes wrong. Did you ever notice that the grumpier you are, the worst things get? Also, people respond mutually to your negative attitude. When we notice we are feeling like this and having a bad day, this is when we need to make a conscious effort to change our day and cheer ourselves up.
Start by choosing happier thoughts, whether it be a happy memory or a daydream of something that would make you feel happy. Then, start to think of the things in your life you appreciate. Just keep your mind focused on this. Chase the negative thoughts away when they creep in. This definitely takes practice. The best place to practice this exercise and promote relaxation is to lie down in your hammock. If you are not at home, you can still do this anywhere to change the path of your day. Choose happiness!
Sunday is “family day” for my family. But you could choose any day that suits your family. This is the day we spend special time with our children, who are growing up way too fast. Some days, we just stay home and do fun things, no work allowed. We eat what we want, maybe just order a pizza, or make popcorn to watch our movie with. We might even just “hang out” in our backyard, all four of us in our family sized Mexican hammock and talk or just read.
Sometimes my boys will let me read to them a little while. Eventually, kids being kids, one of them gets too close to the other, or such, and we all have to bail out. It is fun while it lasts, though, and these precious moments, I hope, will last a lifetime.
It is the time of year when summer is drawing to a close. Where I live, this means cooler weather and less hammock time. I cannot give up that feeling of relaxation, that I’ve been enjoying, until next spring.
I know there are many beautiful autumn days to come, when I will slip out to my hammock, even if I need to wear a jacket or take a blanket. What a nice way to enjoy my big old maple trees as their leaves turn the brightest yellow! Maybe I’ll take a nap in the crisp, cool air and let the leaves fall on me!
One of the most useful hammock accessories I have found is the protective hammock sleeve. This is made of weather resistant material. It slides over the hammock without a spreader bar to protect it from the weather. You can tie the ends to keep the water out.
There is no need to take it off. When you are ready to enjoy your hammock, simply slide the sleeve up over the strings. and hop in! This way, you can leave your hammock out all season so it is always ready for you to climb in and enjoy!
It seemed like the heat this summer would never end! Finally, pleasant temperatures during the day and cool at night! This is the perfect camping weather!
The easiest way to sleep while camping is to have a folding hammock. It folds into its own little pouch so it takes up so little room. Everyone in my family has their own! All we need to do is hang our hammocks and we are ready. No tent to pitch! No kids saying “Mom, he’s too close to me!” You won’t miss that! So much easier and they take up less room in the trunk!
Walter Perkins began experimenting with a hammock he had purchased in the late 1960’s. He took it apart and put it back together. Then eventually he started selling his own.
He was laughed at by many people when his “hammock shop” started in his trunk. He persevered and followed his dream. Today Hatteras Hammocks has grown into one of the largest hammock producers and distributors in the world. Now who’s laughing?
I have tried camping in the past but I didn’t like sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag. I now have found the perfect solution, travel hammocks! They are perfect for taking along camping as they take up so little room!
The part I like the best is that I am up off the ground. It is so easy to put up between two trees with tree straps. Then I crawl in for a comfy night’s rest! In the summer heat, I get a nice breeze and stay cooler than being in a tent!
