But, regardless, our time has come to an end. So, farewell, my cold friend. Tomorrow, I will welcome March and be happy knowing that I will be definitely, regardless of the weather, be hanging some kind of hammock or hammock chair in my backyard in the near future!
We had a lot of snow yesterday. It cancelled our dinner plans because the restaurant closed. That’s okay, I thought, I will make something. So, I took a whole chicken out of the freezer and made a big pot of healthy chicken vegetable soup. It was perfect with homemade crusty bread, and white wine!
The snow was piling up outside and blowing around the windows, but we were warm and cozy inside with wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen! I spent the afternoon by the fire in my Byer of Maine hammock chair, reading. It turned out to be a wonderful day and evening!
Yesterday was the coldest day of the year for my area, -1 degrees in the morning, not counting wind chill. The wind chill was -25 degrees! So, what did my hiking buddy and I do when it was that cold, considering we want to keep all of our body parts? Well, we drive to Longwood Gardens!
I don’t know of anything more therapeutic for two flower lovers…the warm breath of fragrant-filled air, with the beauty of flowers and sunshine streaming in, was just “good for the soul”. I could honestly have set up a hammock stand with a cozy hammock and spent the night inhaling the fragrance!
This is an exciting anticipation for me every year. I start planning ahead, and dreaming, to spring planting, and I also have a new Algoma Hammocks Caribbean rope hammock to find a spot for in the backyard! It’s a beautiful robin egg blue, one of my favorite spring colors!
Since it’s Valentines weekend and the theme is love, I was thinking of a movie I saw this week. It was actually out of the box office, but I saw it in a budget theater. It was The Theory of Everything. It was about the life of Stephen Hawking, the brilliant physicist who authored several books, and his first wife, Jane Hawking.
In my opinion, it should have been released as a Valentine movie, because I felt that it was a story of true love. I felt there was true sacrificial love from both Stephen and Jane. I found it be a beautiful love story. In fact, I am so interested in them now that I have downloaded Jane Hawking’s book, Travelling to Infinity: My Life With Stephen by Jane Hawking, on my kindle. I am hanging out this afternoon in my knotted hammock chair engrossed in this book!
For me, it’s just important to spend time with the love of my life, my dearest friend, confidante, sometimes partner in crime, and soul mate. We are going to make a nice cozy dinner and cuddle in the wooden hammock stand in front of the fire. A warm and cozy winter’s night in. Perfect!
Today, I have the privilege to stay in my warm house and hang out with my teenager, who is off school on winter break. There is a wind chill advisory for 20 below zero today! What?? Oh, I am not leaving this house!
We are watching some old Bewitched episodes and trying to decide on a movie. Probably it will be Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock. I am happy to have a teenager that enjoys old shows and movies! I learn new “old” things from him all the time! So, after a siesta in my Mayan hammock (thank God I have an indoor hammock!), we are going to make popcorn and watch it.
My hiking buddy and I braved the cold and wind on a winter’s day to enjoy the beauty of winter, get some fresh air, and renew our spirits. I am glad we didn’t let the weather stop us, as it was supposed to be very windy.
However, we were somewhat protected by hills, as we were happy to discover. The sun was shining brightly on the frozen lake we hiked around. How beautiful it was! I saw a perfect spot to hang a nylon hammock this summer, right between these trees at the lake’s edge!
I am feeling spring around the corner! This is the time of year that I start planning my garden. I keep a garden journal from each year, so I look through this and try to figure out what I want to plant, what I might not, etc.
I love laying in my quilted hammock, looking through the seed catalogs and the pictures of flowers and vegetables. I also have a bookshelf of garden books I browse through. It is fun for me to anticipate the garden and it makes this time of year go faster!
Okay, it’s official. I am tired of winter! I don’t mind snow too much, but this morning we had freezing rain here! That stuff is just ridiculous to drive in! I am so very thankful I didn’t have to go out in it today.
I was forced to stay in, but am actually happy about it, because I was able to have a relaxing day. I did have a walk on the treadmill, while looking out the window, thanking God I could stay in and that I have a treadmill! Then I was able to read in my swinging hammock chair in the corner. I guess I can handle a bit more winter!
