I had plans to take the kids away for a camping weekend. We were going to take a few backpacking hammocks and do some hiking in the woods, just a simple camping trip, roughing it a bit! However, given the heat wave we seem to be enveloped in, I decided to be flexible with my plans.
The woods, even though shady, can also hold the heat, and I decided we will just “camp in” this weekend in the central air! Oh, my, I hope that’s not terrible parenting, but if it is just miserable, they may be miserable too,and it will not be soon that they will want to do that again. So, a few camping hammocks in the basement with a few scarey movies is our version of roughing it this weekend. Better luck next weekend, I hope!
It is 8:00pm, yet it is still 99 degrees! Oh, my goodness, that is hot! We are not used to these temperatures here, and I don’t particularly enjoy it. At least the sun is down now. I watered all my potted plants, giving them a generous drink of cold water, then I found myself walking out to the dense trees in my backyard.
I hopped in the knotted hammock chair and sat and swung a bit. I was sitting a little while, when I realized, it is so hot out here, why I am out here? But it really was nicer under the trees, and I needed a small dose of nature today. Just enough to make me truly appreciate central air conditioning upon entering my house!
I know sunbathing is not recommended, but I can’t resist a little bit of it now and then. After all, isn’t Vitamin D healthy for you? It sure feels wonderful on a perfect, sunny day.
This summer, I am realizing the benefits of sunbathing in a rope hammock, because the air can circulate under and around you, even with a slight breeze. There were just the perfect amount of puffy clouds in the beautiful blue sky too! What a wonderful siesta I had! Zzzz…
Oh no! I came out to my Outer Banks Hammocks quilted hammock that is hung under the trees in my backyard, to rest, read, and write a blog post, and what do I find? Bird poop on my hammock!
Those birds, that I so enjoy watching bouncing from branch to branch, as I lay here listening to them chirping and carrying on with each other, have dropped a few berries below on my beautiful hammock! Well, I decided to just brush it off and spot clean it, and get over it. I just need to realize, hey, that’s nature!
It was a lazy afternoon for me, after a very active morning. I went for a run, as part of my marathon training. It has been so hot last week, but the heat wave finally, and thankfully, broke yesterday. So, I took advantage of a cooler morning to go to the bike trail to run.
I had a great run, but I kept thinking about getting back, drinking a lot of water, taking a hot, long shower, and then retiring to my cozy, quilted hammock in the shade for a well-deserved nap. It was wonderful! It really is the simple things in life that can bring the most happiness!
Yesterday, was the summer solstice, a day earlier this year, due to Leap Year. It is always strange to me that the first day of summer is the longest day of the year, then the days get increasingly shorter by a minute or two, for the rest of the year! It seems like it should be the opposite.
I do love the long hours of daylight, and don’t want to miss even a minute! But I will be doing my best to enjoy the summer season as much as I can. I am keeping up very faithfully, with my vow to myself, to have more hammock time this summer. I spent some time this morning, early, out in my knotted hammock chair, drinking coffee, and reading the new gardening magazine I got! It was a great way to start the day!
I love the evenings in the summer! It stays daylight so long and I just love the time between sunset and dusk, when the lightening bugs start lighting up the yard.
I try to take, at least a short time, to enjoy my new macrame hammock on beautiful evenings like this. Even if I had a busy day and I am still involved in work, I love myself for taking this time to remind myself that I am important and worthy of a wonderful, evening rest in my hammock! If we don’t love ourselves, how are we going to love anyone else?
So, after my Dads gym day On Saturday, he was very sore and stiff on Father’s Day. I think Father’s Day gave him a good excuse to lay around in his new hammock! Not to mention, he wanted to show my Mom and brothers and sisters how much he enjoyed his gift!
It couldn’t have come at a better time, for sure! He has been wishing for the Outback Chair Urban Balance Wave for a long time. Well, he was so surprised and happy, it was a priceless moment. My Dad is the best, and I am happy that he has a perfect spot to hang out, even if he does try to act like he is still a teenager, at times!
My Dad went to the gym for the first time in fourteen years. You could imagine this would be hard for anyone, but with a trainer pushing him, it was worse. My Dad, of course, not wanting to look wimpy in front of the young guys, over did it!
He paid for it later, though. He was having trouble sleeping, so, as a joke, I said I would loan him my hammock. He tried it and he said sleeping in my macrame hammock was great! He’s even getting one for himself.
My boyfriend is amazing! Today he took me on the best surprise date ever! First, he took me to get my nails done, and then we went for dinner at a Japanese restaurant.
Afterwards, he took me to this beautiful spot at the lake and we strung one of his Dad’s backpacking hammocks between two trees, and we hopped in and watched the sun go down!
