It’s that time of year, the sweet corn is ready for picking! I absolutely love corn on the cob, with real butter, and sea salt. Yum! I am the Healthy Hammock Lady, and some may think this isn’t healthy, but I think it is just delicious! We husked, cooked, and cut off ten dozen ears tonight to freeze.
Of course, there were plenty of breaks to stop and eat some hot ears. I just appreciate it so much, throughout the year, while cooking so many soups and dishes. Baked corn is one of my family’s favorites. I will post the recipe tomorrow! I had yellow on my brain from all that corn, I had to sit in the Algoma Hammocks yellow butterfly chair to rest after all that work!
I love to hear the sea gulls cries as they fly past my house to and from the beach. I love it here so much, I always feel sad to leave. But leave I must, as other life obligations are calling. Having a beach house isn’t all fun and games, I like to say! But very blessed I know I am.
So, this afternoon, as I was laying in my rope hammock, relaxing, watching the gulls fly above, I imagined that they were crying because I am leaving tomorrow! They will miss the stale bread I throw out for them! I will miss them and everything here…until the next time I come back!
I had a fun day with my boys today. We took our bikes to our local bike trail to go for an afternoon ride. It was a beautiful day, warm, but a nice breeze, and fine for biking, especially with lots of shade.
We packed a lunch in our backpacks. But we also brought along camping hammocks for each of us. We stopped in the middle of a long ride to eat our lunch. Then we strung our travel hammocks in a tree near each other and hopped in for a short rest! It was fun!
Yesterday, I never got out to the beach because I laid around like a fat cat in my cozy hammock, after a huge lunch. I did enjoy the view anyways. Well, it was even windier today, but I was ready to brave it! Not so much the rest of the gang, but I am the die-hard beach bum in this family!
So, I braved it, with chair in hand, and trotted out to the beach, turning my back to the wind. This helped greatly, and I had a wonderful view of the beautiful whitecaps all down the shoreline. I spent hours on the beach reading, with no interruptions, as I was the only family member on the beach! When I came in early this evening, they said they had a great day, with a nice view, on the deck in the Brazilian hammock and hammock chairs we have there, and why did I feel I had to be on the beach? I said “there is no sand on our deck to sink my toes in”!
I love lobster rolls! There is a restaurant near our house that serves the best ones I have ever tasted! So, today for lunch, instead of eating in like always, we decided to go out for lunch. The weather is quite windy, so it is not the perfect beach day.
So, we had a delicious lunch and great family time. A great big order of calamari for the table, and a wonderful lobster roll I had. Now, I am laying, like a fat cat, in my cozy Mayan hammock. I may venture on the beach later, if the wind dies down. But I am in no hurry to move from this comfy spot!
I got up early this morning for a short run on the beach. I expected to slip back in before the family was up, as usual. However, the glorious smell of bacon greeted me upon my return! I can’t help it, I love bacon! It may not be the healthiest choice, but I still enjoy it occasionally.
The funny thing was, as I was running, the smell of bacon would waft out of houses here and there. I was thinking, that’s it, I am making some when I get back! But my husband surprised me, and surprised I sure was, that he was even out of bed! It just reminds me how the little, simple pleasures can bring us so much happiness! Like laying in my Outer Banks Hammocks rope hammock, as I am writing this blog, with a full belly, looking forward to another wonderful day!
Yesterday, as I am sitting on the beach, enjoying the moment, I suddenly felt a dusting of sand across my face! Ughh! The women upwind of me was shaking out her towel! Of course, she said, “Oh, I’m sorry”! Now, let me tell you that, on a windy day at the beach, we all need to practice what I call proper or polite “towel shaking”!
You need to take your towel to a place away from others downwind of you, then lightly shake. Perfect! No sand-blasted beach bums! Better, yet, try an Algoma Hammocks butterfly chair for your next beach trip and skip the need for towel shaking, altogether!
I just love watch children play on the beach! They are so entertaining, maybe I am easily amused, but they are so darn cute exploring the sand, building sand castles, and in some cases, putting the sand in their mouths! Then there are the babies that are just along for the ride. They seem to love napping in their portable playpens, they are so resilient, really. My boys were on the beach with us from the time they were 4 months old.
I had an idea yesterday while on the beach, as I was seeing all the young Moms caring for their children and babies. Wouldn’t this pink Outback Chair cove be so awesome in the nursery of a baby girl? You could hold her and read or sing to her before bedtime in her hammock chair. Then she could grow up with it, reading, doing homework, hanging out as a teenager, then finally, raising her own children with it.
Oh, the sun is out today, it didn’t show much of itself yesterday. But that was okay, I was still traumatized by the heat wave the previous week! Nice temperatures in store for today, which I am grateful for. I am actually grateful for everything in my life, especially when I am at the beach!
So starts a typical beach day for me..sipping coffee in my hammock chair on the deck, while looking at the ocean, then a nice, long run today, then a shower, breakfast with the whole family, who will be crawling out of bed by then, especially by the time they smell it cooking! Then a day of hanging out with the family on the beach, reading, walking the beach, collecting shells, and splashing in the surf! What a glorious day, and I will appreciate every minute of it!
I managed to get enough time away to spend a week at my own beach house! It’s amazing how you think people with beach houses always enjoy them, which is what I always thought, but it often is not the case. Obligations and every day life can get in the way of taking the trip and the time away.
But I need to make more time to enjoy what I love. Spending time with my family is on the top of my favorite list! When it happens to be at the beach house, well, then that’s an absolute bonus! I am laying in my faithful old quilted hammock, looking at the ocean, and pondering on some fun things to do and great, simple meals to make. I will keep you posted!
