Archive for December, 2013
Well, it’s the last day of the year, I’ve shaken my after Christmas blues, and now am enjoying the last day of 2013! I had a nice run to celebrate, with more energy today. I thought about the many days I have spent on the trail this year, riding my bike or running, seeing the seasons change. I am happy about the cardinals I saw in the trees today.
I am now sitting in my hammock chair, reflecting on the very busy, but good, year this has been. An oldest son graduated high school and started college, and a three week road trip out west, were the main highlights I am remembering. I know 2014 will not be as “big” of a year…but I am okay with that.
I don’t feel like I get real crazy over Christmas, so I shouldn’t get a “let down” then, right? But that is how I feel today, not sad, just tired, lazy, and, well, maybe a little blue? My birdie that’s out of the nest at school flew back last night, but he left some dirty socks laying around to remind me of him! That would’ve irritated me before, but now it makes me chuckle..then feel sad.
Okay, I guess I have the after Christmas blues, after all! I went out to the running trail to run, but only walked. I had trouble mustering enough inertia to keep me running, so walking was better than nothing today. But I froze! Then, after a hot shower, all I can do is lay around in my indoor Mayan hammock, like a fat cat! I can dream of a more energetic day tomorrow…
I have a lot of camo clothing and recently I found a camo purse and camo bedding. I hope this is not a fad because I would have to replace alot of things in my home if it is. My latest find is a camo swinging hammock chair. I have not used it yet because it is cold outside right now but I am going to take it camping with me in the summer. Can’t wait!
Christmas day is a simple day for my family. A peaceful, relaxing day spent together, beginning of course, with opening presents in the morning. I never liked getting the kids too much “stuff”, as I want them to appreciate less and feel fortunate for what we have. I was certainly happy for my new Brazilian hammock, the only thing I asked for. I am hanging it from a ceiling hook for a hammock chair this winter!
Then there’s brunch, and watching “sappy” Christmas movies in the afternoon! I love them, some make you cry, and some make you laugh, but the best part is the time we spend together, just enjoying each other’s company. Merry Christmas to all!
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house…well, you know the rest. There has always been a magical feeling about Christmas eve that I never outgrew. The house is quiet, not a creature is stirring, and that is when I like to still be the only one awake.
I sit in my swinging hammock chair, right next to the Christmas tree. The lights from the tree are the only lights on in the whole house. I just sit and swing, and give thanks for the family I have, safe and sound, in my warm house. I think I secretly also hope to catch a glimpse of Santa!
My kids have loved the Dr. Seuss books since they were toddlers. The Cat in The Hat is our favorite and Green Eggs and Ham is our second favorite. You cannot beat the good feeling you get from reading these books. They seem to be ageless, loved by young and old alike.
You can imagine my surprise when searching for a hammock for our back yard and I found Green Eggs and Hammocks. Because of the great products that Green Eggs and Hammocks has, I bought a Con2our chair and the trailer hitch stand to hang the chair from.
This spring my husband and I are going to start hiking. We like being outdoors but this is completely new to us. We will start with some easy trails to get used to walking long distances and hopefully go on to harder hikes as time goes on. I pulled up a list of things to take in the backpack and decided on getting these:
extra days food
Since we are doing easy hikes at first I figured that would be enough for a one day trip. Backpacking hammocks are so lightweight I am carrying one for break time.
Today, the snow is coming down, and I am hanging out in the house, enjoying the beauty of it. I love sitting in my hammock chair and looking out his window.
I prop up my feet, and grab a nice cup of hot coffee, and the Christmas book I am reading, Dashing Through The Snow! Pretty appropriate, I thought. I would have to say it is a perfectly cozy day!
I find the butterfly chair to be a very interesting piece of furniture. It can be a camping chair or it can be used in your den to watch movies. Most chairs cannot hold that distinct position.
I have seen very fancy butterfly chairs that have leather seats but you will easily find ones that have fabric seats. I like that the chair can be folded and carried to wherever you need it most. What a great chair!
I have had three hammocks in my life time but this one is the most comfortable and strongest hammock yet. It did not cost very much for my OBX Hammocks hammock, so I am considering buying a second one for my backyard. If I had two hammocks, then the kids could have their own!
