Light on Snow by Anita Shreve, a book about a recently widowed father and his 12 year old daughter, who find a baby in the snowy woods. I am going to slip into the den this afternoon, for an hour or so, and hang out in my Mayan hammock and start reading this book!
Today, I am going out for a walk just to feel the sunshine on my face. It is days like today where I am tempted to drag out a hammock from the garage and just lay out there in it..I’d probably last about 10 minutes in this temperature!
We walked out to the end of the yard, past the empty tree where we sat in the hammock chair this summer. Now it looks lonely with only one of the hammock accessories hanging there…just waiting for spring, to be useful again!
Snow and more snow! That’s our weather forecast for the next couple days! I really appreciate the beauty of it…especially from the house in my special corner, in one of my hammock swings.
When it’s cold outside, I like hibernating inside, watching it snow. Today, I am rediscovering my bookshelf and browsing through all the books I never seem to have time to read. The hardest thing will be choose one!
I have discovered an awesome new chair to add to my collection of hammock chairs! This is quite the piece of furniture, the globo swing chair! Now, to choose from natural, green, or terracotta? The terracotta would look great on my patio in the globo stand.
I can see many afternoons or evenings in this chair, reading or writing, or listening to music. It’s an investment in my happiness, which leads to health, actually!
I mentioned yesterday how I have been hiking this winter. I actually do not like the cold and usually want to hibernate all winter. However, I do enjoy being outdoors and I love the beauty of nature up close and personal.
So, I am discovering that if I dress warm enough, but not too warm, it’s a bit tricky some days, but I’m learning, I can truly enjoy being outdoors! I might even ponder a really long hike someday, involving an overnight and a portable hammock…when it’s warmer, of course.
I am discovering how much I like hiking this winter! Normally I would wait until spring. But I have a new hiking buddy who shares my love of nature and the outdoors, and just about everything else I like, which gives us plenty to talk about as we are huffing and puffing up the hills!
We are enjoying the bare beauty of nature this winter. Where before I saw bare trees with no leaves, bleak and colorless, I am now appreciating their beauty as they stand proudly, naked of their leaves, in the winter. I am constantly noticing trees that would be perfect for camping hammocks!
Today I was able to spare a few moments from the family to sit in my hammock chair stand and read, as the sun was streaming in. Just a simple pleasure, but it brings me joy!
Well, I would say that winter “happened” and is continuing to happen. This is the part that challenges me, the second “half” of winter, after the holidays are over. The actual real winter where there are snow days, icy roads, and cancelled plans.
I just had to reschedule a long overdue lunch date with an old friend this week. I was disappointed, but then decided to make the best of the situation, and just “enjoy the view”. So, that is exactly what I did. I grabbed a book and just “hung out” in one of my hammock swings. It turned out to be a restful afternoon that I needed!
I have found that the best hammock for a smaller area inside the house is a small Brazilian hammock. You can hang it up from a hook by both ends and it becomes a chair! You can hang it from a corner, or even a doorway!
