Longwood Gardens

Byer of Maine travel hammockFor a Mother’s Day gift this year, for my mother and mother-in-law, my husband and I took them to a beautiful garden! We spent the day walking around the beautifully maintained grounds, marveling at the beauty of it, wondering how old are these trees?

My husband was funny, he kept falling behind, then I would see him trying to figure out what kind of tree it was! I was afraid I would turn around to find that he slipped one of our travel hammocks in his backpack, and had it strung it up between two trees, and was hopping in for a nap!

Camping Afternoon

Byer of Maine travel hammockYesterday, I talked about short “camping trips”, as in just a short period of time we take for ourselves to get away from our busy lives, stresses, duties, etc. As I said, it is just a matter of taking one of your travel hammocks on a short trip.

This can be as close as your backyard, even. However, one of my favorite afternoons, on a beautiful day, is to take the afternoon with my bike to one of the trails nearby. Then, when I need a break, I just find a shady spot, and string up my portable hammock, get out my drink and snack, and I am set!

I love Saturdays! Just a day to sleep in, hang out with the family, catch up on stuff left over from the week. or just run around or do…whatever! Today, my hubby and I discovered a new, really just a forgotten, little park to run or walk, or have a picnic.

It sits up on a small hill and has a beautiful view of the country. I am glad to have re-discovered it now so that I can watch the valley come alive this spring! I am planning on bringing a portable hammock there this spring, also, to take a rest in!

Beautiful Day

It was unseasonably warm today in my little corner of the world. I loved it, however, all my hammocks and hammock chairs are safely tucked away in the garage for the winter. I had to settle for a portable hammock I could hang up on the deck quickly.

I am so thankful that I was available to enjoy some sunshine from the outside today, rather than just coming in the windows. The only problem is that this weather can spoil me, making the cold days coming seem even colder. But I will try to  just be happy for the day I had!

Strong Little Hammock!

I am so proud of my strong little portable hammock, that I accidentally left out in the storm last night! The water was flying up on the deck at high tide from the bay below, and the wind was whipping at 35-45 miles per hour! There was my strong little Bliss Hammocks travel hammock, strapped to the deck railings with tree straps, whipping around and around, and I was not going out in that once I realized it!

So, this morning, a new day has arrived, wind has died down, rain is over, and there was my poor little hammock, all twisted up, and wet, but truly, “no worse for wear”! I am so thankful! I untwisted it, and now it can dry out so I can use it later today, or this evening to watch the sunset!

Cape Cod

Having a vacation up here in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, one of my absolute favorite places! Staying in a little cottage right on the Cape Cod Bay, otherwise known as “Heaven”. I can sit on the deck for hours on end, just listening to the waves lap gently on the shore, sunning, and reading.

This year, however, I got smart! I missed my hammock last year, so I brought along one of our camping hammocks, and used tree straps to fasten it to the railings on the deck. It is perfect and I am so happy I thought of it! Now, I can look out over the beautiful, blue water, and just give thanks for this gorgeous day!

Well, our camping trip turned into a hiking trip also! My favorite, but I can’t believe I got the wife to go for it! As I explained, she does prefer to “camp” in the house, so going to a campsite is quite a challenge for her, as it is. But, hiking to our spot, and using backpacking hammocks, I was sure was going to be where she drew the line.

But, I guess she enjoyed the first half of our weekend so much that she was feeling very generous. Don’t get me wrong, she is a wonderful woman, and very generous, but this is just not her cup of tea. But she ended up having fun! It was a “down to nature”-type of short camping trip, and I think she was very proud of herself for going the extra mile for her guys. She blessed herself in blessing us, and it was very special!

Long Weekend

Did someone say long weekend? Yay! I love an extra day with my family! Of course, we are getting the travel hammocks out and going on a camping trip! My wife is even joining us, and camping isn’t her favorite thing to do, but she is a great sport. Because it’s a long weekend, we compromised with her. The first half of weekend what she wants, then she goes with us.

Last night and today was her pick, dinner on the patio, with the family, sitting around the chimnea, roasting marshmallows, with a big full moon in the sky. It was fun and nice family time, a perfect night. See, she likes to camp at home…then when she’s tired, sleep in her own bed! Oh, and today, well, she got me to do an overdue project! Bribery works every time!

Bike Ride

I had a fun day with my boys today. We took our bikes to our local bike trail to go for an afternoon ride. It was a beautiful day, warm, but a nice breeze, and fine for biking, especially with lots of shade.

We packed a lunch in our backpacks. But we also brought along camping hammocks for each of us. We stopped in the middle of a long ride to eat our lunch. Then we strung our travel hammocks in a tree near each other and hopped in for a short rest! It was fun!

Beach Weekend

Here at the beach for the weekend to enjoy a relaxing weekend of looking at the water and sand and the kites flying. I can sit for hours doing this. There is also a kite festival going on, so there are tons of kites flying.

The only thing missing is my portable hammock. I wish I could bring it along and hang it on the balcony, but I don’t think the motel would approve.
